Return to Alpha Water Polo

Established in 2019, Alpha Water Polo Club aims to develop the best water polo players in the Greater Philadelphia Area. We attempt to accomplish this goal in four ways:

  1. Teaching Fundamentals, Fundamentals, Fundamentals
  2. Specific Positional Training
  3. Water Polo Conditioning centered on legs and speed-strength.
  4. Providing instruction on team tactics focused on speed and space.
Our club has four levels:

U12--Ages 8-12: At this age group, players spend their time on the necessary fundamentals to play the game of water polo. We emphasize hip position, treading technique, and shooting and passing mechanics. The players learn the tactics of high press defense, counter-attacks, and driving.

U14--Ages 12-14: This group adds more conditioning on the fundamentals we teaching in the previous age group. Individual positioning starts to be emphasized more in training.

U16-U18--Ages 15-18: This group focuses on getting players ready to be high school varsity athletes and collegiate bound water polo players. Conditioning is more intense. Fundamentals are emphasized more throughout the practice. Players get significant positional training at the beginning of practice. Tactics focus on adding more advancement movements to attack the defense, attack the ball on defense, and Man Up/Man Down plays.

Alpha Elite, Ages 15-18: This group is meant to be for the players who want to commit to becoming the best water polo player they can be. With more practice time, players train and practice in a system similar to the European model. The training, fundamentals, and drills are position-specific. The goal is to get two competitive teams, Girls and Boys, to compete at a high level regionally and nationally.
